On Monday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh issued a stark warning, stating that he would pursue legal action against two prominent figures in the junior doctors’ movement if discussions with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee do not yield positive results.
Ghosh specifically named junior doctors Aniket Mahato and Debasish Halder as the key players behind the ongoing protests.
In a statement, Ghosh warned that if today’s meeting convened by the Chief Minister fails and the proposed total strike by junior doctors leads to chaos that worsens the medical condition of even a single patient, then FIRs must file against Aniket Mahato and Debasish Halder at the nearest police station, as they are the main conspirators. He emphasized the need to include the names of the medical institutions and other concerned doctors in the filings. Ghosh asserted that access to medical treatment is a basic right for everyone, and denying that constitutes a legal offense.
Ghosh further claimed that Mahato and Halder must take responsibility if any junior doctor’s health worsens during the hunger strike.
“The Chief Minister has been showing sensitivity in the matter again and again. I urge everyone to withdraw the hunger strike and engage in discussions. Requesting all not to get trapped in the conspiracies of the Opposition party, Left and ultra-Left forces,” he stated.
However, the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front (WBJDF), which is leading the protest following the tragic rape and murder of a fellow doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, has decided to remain silent in response to Ghosh’s remarks.
A representative from the WBJDF asserted, “It is our stand that we will not react to any statement from Kunal Ghosh. At a time when our movement has received worldwide support, giving reaction to statements by Ghosh is nothing but a waste of time. We want to ignore him.”
