Past 11 Years Were ‘News Reel’, Real Film Yet To Begin: Nitin Gadkari On 2029 Polls

Union Minister and senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said the past 11 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi were just a news reel. He claimed the real film is yet to begin.

“Whatever happened was a news reel. Real cinema is yet to begin,” said Nitin Gadkari during an interview with a Marathi channel. He responded to a question about his possible role in the 2029 general elections.

Gadkari, a former BJP national president, said the party assigns roles to its leaders. He added that he will accept whatever responsibility the party gives him.

He repeated that the BJP decides the duties of its workers. “I will carry out whatever responsibility is given to me,” he said.

Elected from Nagpur for the third time since 2014, Gadkari said he never published his biodata. He added that he never asked supporters to organise grand welcomes at airports.

He said he always wanted to help stop farmer suicides in Vidarbha.

Focus on farmers and social work

Gadkari earned credit for building 55 flyovers in Mumbai and completing the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. He also oversaw major roads and highways across the country. But he said he now focuses more on agriculture and social causes than road works.

The Minister said India’s low per capita income results from its growing population, and supported the population control bill. He stressed it is not about religion or language but economics. “Despite so much development, the fruits are not seen. The reason is increasing population,” he said.

Gadkari on BJP inductions and government achievements

Asked about the BJP inducting former Shiv Sena-UBT leader Sudhakar Badgujar, who faces allegations of links with Dawood aide Salim ‘Kutta’, Gadkari said he does not know or recognise Badgujar.

Gadkari praised the Modi government’s performance since 2014, and said these 11 years showed strong progress for farmers, labourers, villages, and all sections of society.

He said these years were very important in Indian history. “What didn’t happen in 60 years happened in the last 11 years,” he claimed.

He expressed confidence that India’s logistics cost will drop to 9 per cent by the end of the year. He said this will boost exports and grow businesses.

On women’s reservation, he said the BJP is committed to 33 per cent quota. He added that the party has already taken a decision in this regard.
