Amit Shah Leads Yoga Session In Ahmedabad As World Celebrate 11th International Day Of Yoga

Union Home Minister Amit Shah took part in a mass yoga session at Prahlad Nagar Garden in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Saturday. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, MLA Amit Thaker, and senior BJP leaders joined him.

Hundreds of citizens gathered to perform yoga and celebrate the 11th International Day of Yoga.

Taking to X, Shah posted, “Yoga has long been an integral part of India’s tradition of a healthy and holistic way of life. Regular practice of yoga frees the body, mind, and thoughts from negativity and fills them with positive energy. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the world has embraced yoga—India’s invaluable heritage.”

“On the occasion of International Yoga Day, I extend my best wishes to all and urge everyone to make yoga a part of their daily life,” the post added.

Thousands join Yoga Sangam across India

The Ahmedabad event was part of ‘Yoga Sangam,’ a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Ayush. Thousands of sessions took place across India. The programme aims to spread awareness about yoga’s health benefits. It encourages people to practise yoga regularly.

Citizens from various backgrounds, including students, diplomats, and yoga enthusiasts, participated. They gathered in the morning and joined in synchronised yoga sessions.

The ministry organised the events to promote yoga’s physical and mental advantages.

Across the world, Indian embassies and cultural centres hosted yoga sessions.

In Nepal, the Indian Embassy and Lumbini Development Trust held a large event at Lord Buddha’s birthplace in Lumbini. Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava said yoga had become a global movement since the UN declared June 21 as Yoga Day in 2014.

In Thailand, students from St Andrews International School performed yoga. The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre and Indian Embassy in Bangkok hosted the session. The embassy said the event reflected the theme ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’.

In Austria, the Indian Embassy in Vienna teamed up with Stadt Wien to celebrate Yoga Day. Austria’s national broadcaster ORF featured the event in its morning show Guten Morgen Österreich. In Saudi Arabia, Indian school students in Taif and Jubail also joined yoga sessions to promote harmony and wellness.

Now in its 11th year, the International Day of Yoga has become a global phenomenon. Countries across continents now observe the day. India continues to lead in promoting well-being, discipline, and sustainable living through yoga. The 2025 theme highlights the link between personal health and global harmony.
