Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to social media platform X to pay tribute to Amar Shaheed Sukhdev, one of India’s most revered freedom fighters.
In a post written in Hindi, Shah described Sukhdev as a ‘brave son of Maa Bharati’ who made India’s independence his ultimate mission from a young age.

His sacrifice, along with comrades Bhagat Singh and Rajguru, continues to ignite the flame of patriotism in millions.
Remembering A National Hero
Sukhdev Thapar, hailing from Punjab, was barely 23 years old when he laid down his life for the motherland.
Alongside Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru, he became a symbol of youthful resistance against British colonial rule.
The trio was hanged on 23 March 1931, and their martyrdom became a rallying point for India’s independence movement.
In his post, Shah highlighted how Sukhdev’s dedication stirred the nation’s conscience and inspired nationalism among Indian youth.
He said Sukhdev’s sacrifice remains a powerful reminder of freedom’s cost and every citizen’s duty to safeguard it.
This is not the first time Amit Shah has used social media to honour the legacy of India’s freedom fighters.
Known for his consistent engagement with India’s cultural and historical icons, Shah has often highlighted the contributions of lesser-known heroes of the independence struggle.
His tribute to Sukhdev follows similar commemorations of figures like Subhas Chandra Bose, Rani Lakshmibai, and Tatya Tope.
By invoking the courage and clarity of purpose shown by Sukhdev, Shah seeks to remind the younger generation of the importance of national pride, unity, and sacrifice.
Public Reactions & Historical Significance
Shah’s post has drawn widespread attention and praise from netizens, many of whom shared their own tributes, quotes, and stories related to Sukhdev.
Educational institutions, cultural organisations, and political figures across the spectrum also joined in remembering the martyr’s legacy.
Sukhdev remains an enduring figure in Indian collective memory.
He was involved with the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) and remained committed to revolutionary ideals.
He refused to seek mercy before execution, reflecting his indomitable spirit.
As India continues to commemorate its freedom fighters, tributes such as Amit Shah’s serve as important moments of national reflection.
They remind citizens of the sacrifices that built the foundation of modern India and the responsibility to uphold those ideals.
Through such messages, the government reiterates its commitment to preserving the nation’s historical legacy and educating future generations about the price of freedom.
