Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped unharmed after three men on a motorcycle allegedly opened fire at his car in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday, police said. His driver sustained injuries and received medical treatment at Nanavati Hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg said the attackers fired three rounds at the 36-year-old actor’s vehicle as he left a playground where he had attended football practice.
The gunshots triggered panic in the area, prompting people to seek shelter. Police secured the scene and deployed forensic experts to collect evidence.
Police reported injuries to other people in the vicinity, including an autorickshaw driver.
Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar contacted Shroff’s family to check on his condition, while his father, actor Jackie Shroff, later confirmed that his son was safe.
A video circulated on social media hours after the shooting, showing a man identifying himself as Anil Pandit and claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The speaker allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack and warned Shroff against working with Salman Khan.
Authorities had, however, not officially confirmed any connection between the gang and the incident.
The firing has renewed concerns about threats against members of the film industry.
The alleged warning, however, drew attention to the Bishnoi gang’s reported hostility towards Salman Khan over the actor’s alleged involvement in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case in Rajasthan. Members of the Bishnoi community regard the blackbuck as sacred.
The incident has recalled the 2024 murder of Baba Siddique, who was shot dead in Bandra East.
The Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for that killing, reportedly citing Siddique’s close association with Khan.
