The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another round of heavy rainfall across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while confirming that the Southwest Monsoon has now spread across the entire country.

As northern states prepare for more showers, rainfall is expected to weaken gradually over large parts of Maharashtra.

After two days of widespread showers, residents of Delhi-NCR experienced cooler weather, overcast skies and lower humidity on Friday morning.

The IMD has placed the national Capital under an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall and said weather conditions are likely to improve gradually from 11 July as the intensity of rain decreases.

The weather department has issued a Red Alert for Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Moradabad, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Badaun, Sambhal and Jyotiba Phule Nagar, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. It has also placed Sitapur, Hardoi, Bulandshahr, Saharanpur, Kushinagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shahjahanpur and Hapur under an Orange Alert, asking residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions.

The IMD expects rainfall to become less intense across most parts of Maharashtra. It has retained an Orange Alert for Pune and Satara, while Yellow Alerts remain in place for Raigad, Kolhapur, Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli due to the possibility of moderate to heavy showers.

Persistent rainfall over the past two days led to severe waterlogging and traffic snarls across Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram, disrupting daily life and prompting several private firms to allow employees to work from home.

The IMD also announced that the Southwest Monsoon entered the remaining parts of the north Arabian Sea, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab on 9 July, completing its advance across India.
