Fresh rain lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR in the early hours of Thursday, continuing the monsoon activity over the National Capital and bringing relief from the sticky weather experienced in recent days.
While the rainfall helped bring down the temperature, it also led to waterlogging at a number of locations, slowing traffic and affecting the movement of commuters in parts of the city.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Delhi under an Orange Alert, forecasting heavy rainfall for most of Thursday and advising people to remain alert during the changing weather conditions.
Waterlogging was reported from areas including New Delhi Railway Station, Munirka and several other parts of the Capital after continuous showers.
Although the rain eased humidity, the accumulation of water caused localised disruptions on several roads.
The IMD has forecast that fairly widespread to widespread rainfall will continue over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and western Uttar Pradesh until July 10.
Northeastern Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive another spell of rain until July 13, while eastern Rajasthan will likely witness similar weather on July 9.
On Wednesday, an active monsoon system brought widespread rainfall across large parts of North India, providing relief from the prolonged spell of heat and humid conditions.
According to IMD data, rainfall recorded between 08:30 AM on July 8 and 05:30 AM on July 9 varied across Delhi.
Mehrauli received the highest rainfall at 83 mm, followed by Lodi Road (79 mm), Pusa (73 mm), Chhatarpur (68 mm), Mayur Vihar (66 mm), Janakpuri (62 mm), Narayana (57 mm), Pragati Maidan (46 mm), Najafgarh (42 mm), Mungeshpur (40 mm) and Jharoda Kalan (33 mm).
