Delhi Weather: Widespread Rain Likely On August 14-19 As IMD Forecasts Showers

Delhi-NCR is likely to experience another spell of widespread rainfall on Friday as favourable atmospheric conditions strengthen monsoon activity over the region.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast spells of moderate to heavy rain along with thunderstorms and gusty winds in the coming days.

The weather department expects rain across Delhi, Haryana and Punjab on August 14, with similar conditions likely to persist until August 19.

Forecasters have attributed the ongoing rainfall to a monsoon trough positioned near the National Capital Region.

The trough currently runs from Rajasthan across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, creating favourable conditions for recurring showers over Delhi-NCR.

A low-pressure area near the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast is likely to influence wind patterns over the Gangetic plains during the next 24 to 36 hours, potentially increasing rainfall across northern India.

Delhi may witness cloudy weather during the Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

Cloudy or overcast skies are expected around the Red Fort when the national flag is hoisted. Some areas could also receive light rain or brief showers.

Despite the possibility of wet weather, officials do not expect rainfall to affect the scheduled Independence Day programme significantly.

Delhi experienced similar weather around Independence Day last year. Heavy rain lashed the capital on August 14. Conditions improved ahead of the celebrations the following morning.

Delhi’s overall AQI remained at 264, keeping the capital in the ‘poor’ air quality category.

Readings from various monitoring stations showed conditions ranging from satisfactory to moderate.

Punjabi Bagh recorded an AQI of 109, while Pusa registered 128 and Chandni Chowk reported 124. IIT Delhi stood at 122, followed by Rohini at 118 and Alipur at 104.

DTU recorded an AQI of 97, while Patparganj stood at 96. JNU and Commonwealth Sports Complex both registered 79, with Mandir Marg at 77, Shadipur at 62 and NSIT Dwarka at 56.
