Delhi Weather: More Rain Likely On August 14-15 As IMD Forecasts Widespread Showers

Delhi and several parts of northwest India are likely to receive increased rainfall over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rain across Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on August 14 and 15.

Rainfall activity will increase across northwest India from August 13, while isolated heavy showers could occur from August 14.

The IMD has also forecast light rain or drizzle in Delhi until August 17 and advised residents to follow local weather updates, especially while travelling.

A fresh low-pressure system over the North Bay of Bengal will strengthen and move inland, bringing widespread monsoon rainfall to several parts of the country.

The system formed off the West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts on August 12 and is likely to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area before developing into a depression.

A cyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal and an active monsoon trough positioned south of its normal location will further support rainfall activity.

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rain in Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh, with heavy showers likely across several other regions.

Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘poor’ category.

Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 262, while IIT Delhi recorded 140, Rohini 132, Punjabi Bagh 124, Chandni Chowk and RK Puram 120 and 122 respectively, and Ashok Vihar 114.

Rainfall may influence pollution levels, but several parts of the capital could continue to record poor air quality in the coming days.
