Delhi woke up to a hazy morning on Tuesday as the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 175, placing the national capital in the ‘moderate’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Several monitoring stations recorded elevated pollution levels. CRRI Mathura Road reported the highest AQI at 257, followed by Jahangirpuri at 251, Rohini at 239 and R K Puram at 230.
These locations recorded ‘poor’ air quality. PM2.5 and PM10 remained the prominent pollutants across the city.
In the National Capital Region (NCR), Gurugram recorded an AQI of 165, followed by Noida at 139, Ghaziabad at 133, Faridabad at 117 and Greater Noida at 115. All five cities remained in the ‘moderate’ category.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked Stage 1 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR on October 21 as pollution levels deteriorated.
Measures include restrictions on coal and firewood use in tandoors at eateries and limits on diesel generator use, except for essential and emergency purposes.
Meanwhile, Delhi recorded its lowest minimum temperature of the season for the second consecutive day on Monday.
The mercury fell to 16.2 degrees Celsius, down from 17 degrees on Sunday. The maximum temperature reached 31.4 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a further decline in temperatures. Light rain may occur on Thursday and Friday due to a cyclonic system over the Bay of Bengal.
