Heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday, causing widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion and disruptions to flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport for the second consecutive day.
Waterlogging was reported at several key locations, including Kushak Road, Rajokri village, ITO, Copernicus Marg, Connaught Place and Rajaji Marg.
Areas around Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, AIIMS, Ashoka Road and the Supreme Court faced water accumulation, affecting traffic movement.
Near AIIMS, intense rainfall caused severe waterlogging at a flyover loop, leading to slow-moving traffic and long queues of vehicles.
Flightradar24 reported 18 flight cancellations and 146 delays at Delhi airport due to bad weather.
The latest spell followed heavy showers on Monday that brought several parts of Delhi-NCR to a near standstill.
Major roads and low-lying areas across Delhi, along with parts of Gurugram and Noida, experienced severe waterlogging and prolonged traffic jams.
Flight operations were affected, with 26 cancellations, 15 diversions and more than 390 delays reported on Monday.
The heavy rainfall has pushed Delhi’s cumulative figures above normal at several observatories.
Till August 24, Safdarjung recorded 246.2 mm against the normal 191.1 mm, an excess of 29 per cent. Palam received 227.2 mm, 28 per cent above normal, while Lodi Road recorded 233.2 mm, 22 per cent above normal.
The Ridge recorded 243 mm, 50 per cent above normal, while Ayanagar received 266.3 mm, an excess of 66 per cent.
The District Disaster Management Authority directed corporate offices, government departments and private educational institutions in Gurugram to adopt work-from-home and remote learning arrangements on Tuesday.
The move came amid concerns that further rainfall could disrupt commuting routes and traffic on major roads.
