Delhi-NCR is likely to receive more rainfall on Saturday as the southwest monsoon remains active across the region, coinciding with the opening of the two-day BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
The national capital is hosting the high-profile summit at Bharat Mandapam, bringing together leaders and representatives from 11 emerging and developing economies. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects rain to continue across Delhi over the next few days. It has advised residents to monitor weather updates and exercise caution during spells of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning.
Persistent showers could affect traffic and daily commuting across Delhi-NCR, particularly during intense rainfall. Commuters should account for weather conditions while planning their journeys.
The southwest monsoon has remained active across several parts of the country.
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in around 20 states on Saturday, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan.
Rajasthan could witness rain, thunderstorms and lightning, with warnings covering both eastern and western parts of the state. Odisha may receive rain and thunderstorms, while some districts could record heavy to very heavy rainfall through September 13.
Bihar could see widespread rain, thunderstorms and strong winds, while Haryana may experience heavier showers and thunderstorms.
Himachal Pradesh could face unsettled weather with rain and thunderstorms.
Uttarakhand will likely receive fairly widespread rainfall and thunderstorms through September 14.
Delhi’s air quality remained in the satisfactory category. Monitoring stations recorded AQI levels between 66 at JNU and 117 at Punjabi Bagh, while IIT Delhi, Anand Vihar, Pusa, Rohini and Nehru Nagar recorded satisfactory or moderate readings.
