WhatsApp has now launched on the iPad, continuing its efforts to keep users engaged by trialling new features.
The latest update, revealed in the newest beta version, suggests WhatsApp will soon allow users to log out of their accounts without deleting them entirely.
According to a report by Android Authority, the upcoming logout feature will enable users to clear WhatsApp data while retaining the option to return later.
This development addresses a growing demand among users who wish to temporarily deactivate their accounts rather than erase them permanently.
Facebook, WhatsApp’s parent company, has provided a logout option for years.
It therefore makes sense that WhatsApp, another Meta-owned platform, follows suit. Currently, WhatsApp is testing the logout function internally, with a public beta expected within the coming months.
When logging out, users will have two choices: either delete all data and preferences similar to deleting the account or keep the data intact.
The latter option allows users to sign back in with their mobile number and resume messaging without losing chats, groups, or settings.

As digital detoxes become increasingly popular, this logout feature will likely be welcomed by many.
It offers a way to take a break from the app without losing important conversations or connections. Meanwhile, WhatsApp will likely encourage users to retain their data to maintain its active user base.
In addition, WhatsApp is developing a new media hub for its web client.
This feature will help users track all shared files, photos, and links within chats. Spotted in the latest beta version, the media hub should arrive soon in a future update, further enhancing user convenience.
Together, these updates reflect WhatsApp’s commitment to improving user experience and adapting to evolving digital habits.
