India’s homegrown payments platform, BHIM app, has introduced a new feature allowing users to check their credit scores directly within the app, following a partnership between TransUnion CIBIL and NPCI BHIM Services Limited.
The update enables users to view their CIBIL Score and detailed credit report without needing to switch platforms.
Access to this financial data is controlled through a consent-based system, ensuring that information is retrieved only after user approval.
The feature is currently available on version 4.0.19 and later of the app, marking a shift in its functionality from simple transactions to broader financial management tools.
According to TransUnion CIBIL’s Managing Director and CEO Bhavesh Jain, the move supports India’s transition towards more informed and planned use of credit.
Lalitha Nataraj, MD and CEO of NPCI BHIM Services Ltd, said the initiative aligns with the app’s focus on simplicity and user empowerment.
Another recent update in March introduced biometric authentication for UPI payments. It enables users to approve transactions of up to Rs 5,000 using fingerprint or facial recognition.
Developed by NPCI BHIM Services Limited, the BHIM app serves users across both urban and rural India and supports more than 15 languages. It also includes features such as expense sharing, family account management, and spending insights.
The launch follows the continued growth of the Unified Payments Interface, which recently completed 10 years and now accounts for nearly half of the world’s real-time digital payment transactions.
In January 2026 alone, UPI processed 21.70 billion transactions, with a total value of Rs 28.33 lakh crore.
