If your Facebook account has been hacked, acting quickly can help protect your personal information, photos, messages and contacts.
Unexpected posts or comments, changes to your profile photo or contact details, unfamiliar login alerts, or difficulty accessing your account can indicate that someone else has gained access.
The first step is to use Facebook’s official hacked-account recovery process. Follow the instructions to identify and secure your account. Using a phone or computer that you have previously used to log in may help with recovery.
If you cannot access the account, enter an email address or phone number previously linked to it. You may be able to search using your Facebook name or username.
Once you regain access, change your password immediately. Go to Settings and Privacy, open Accounts Centre, select Password and Security, and choose Change Password. Create a strong password that you do not use for any other account.
If you no longer have access to the email address or phone number linked to Facebook, follow the additional recovery instructions shown during the account identification process. You may be asked to provide new contact details and complete security checks before resetting your password.
After recovering your account, review recent login activity and remove any unfamiliar devices. Check your profile and security settings for changes you did not make.
Enabling two-factor authentication can provide an additional layer of protection by requiring a second verification step when someone tries to log in.
For safer recovery, use Facebook’s official recovery and help pages rather than links received through unfamiliar emails or messages. Never share your password or verification codes with anyone claiming they can recover your account.
