Apple’s latest flagship iPhones are reportedly facing a software issue just days after reaching customers, with some iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max users experiencing freezes and unexpected restarts following failed Face ID attempts.
The iPhone 18 Pro models launched earlier this month alongside Apple’s first book-style foldable, the iPhone Duo.
According to a 9to5Mac report, Apple is aware of the issue and is reportedly working on a fix that could arrive with an upcoming iOS 27 update as early as next week.
User reports began emerging last week, with some owners saying their devices became unresponsive shortly after Face ID failed to recognise them.
The phones reportedly remained frozen for several seconds before restarting automatically.
Affected users may find a panic log under the iPhone Analytics section in Settings, suggesting that the incident is being recorded as a system crash.
Apple has not publicly explained what causes the problem, and it remains unclear whether specific conditions trigger the failure or how widely it affects users.
The issue has drawn attention to changes in the iPhone 18 Pro’s Face ID system.
The models feature a smaller Dynamic Island that can reportedly display three Live Activities at once, compared with two on earlier models.
Apple has moved the Face ID sensors beneath the display towards the top-left area.
Current reports point to a software issue rather than a hardware fault with the redesigned Face ID system.
For now, affected users may have to wait for the next iOS 27 update. A successful fix should address the reported freezing and unexpected restarting.
