Users of Meta-owned WhatsApp reported difficulties sharing photos, videos, stickers, GIFs and other multimedia files on Monday, with complaints emerging from several countries.
According to outage-monitoring platform Downdetector, reports began appearing early in the morning.
Around 41 per cent of complaints concerned messaging, 40 per cent were related to the application and 13 per cent involved notifications.
While some users could continue sending and receiving text messages, multimedia files reportedly took longer to upload or remained stuck during the process.
Several users saw loading symbols on images, while others received prompts to retry.
The disruption also affected stickers, GIFs and larger media files.
Users across India, the UK, France, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Spain and Colombia reported the issue, indicating a widespread problem.
The full extent of the disruption and the total number of affected users remained unclear.
Some users attempted to resolve the issue by restarting their phones, switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, or reinstalling WhatsApp.
Several reported that these measures failed to restore media-sharing functions, particularly for photos and videos.
Downdetector had also received reports of WhatsApp service issues on Sunday.
WhatsApp had not issued an official statement regarding the reported disruption at the time of writing.
