Meta has officially released WhatsApp for the Apple iPad after over 15 years of user anticipation.
This long-awaited launch introduces an app tailored to the iPad’s larger screen, featuring improved user interface elements and enhanced multitasking capabilities designed specifically for iPadOS.
The new WhatsApp for iPad supports advanced multitasking features such as Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over, allowing users to manage several apps simultaneously.
For example, users can message friends while browsing the web or plan group activities during a call.
These features, however, are available only on certain iPad models, including the iPad Pro with M4 chips, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later), and iPad Air models from the 5th generation onwards.
Significantly, WhatsApp for iPad introduces audio and video calling support with up to 32 participants, allowing easier communication with friends and family directly from the tablet.
This addition greatly expands WhatsApp’s utility on the iPad, moving beyond simple messaging.
The app also supports commands from the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, making it more convenient for users to navigate and interact with WhatsApp on their devices.
These integrations enhance productivity and usability, especially for users who rely on the iPad for both work and personal communication.
Meta has emphasised the app’s multi-device technology, which keeps data synchronised securely across iPhone, Mac, iPad, and other devices without requiring constant internet connectivity on the phone.
Importantly, WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption remains intact on the iPad version, ensuring all messages and calls maintain users’ privacy.
To start using WhatsApp on your iPad, simply download the app from the Apple App Store.
With this launch, iPad users can enjoy a richer messaging experience that leverages the tablet’s large display and advanced features.
After a 15-year wait, WhatsApp’s arrival on the iPad marks a significant upgrade for users seeking a full-featured messaging app on Apple’s tablet.
With improved multitasking, enhanced calling capabilities, and strong privacy safeguards, the new WhatsApp for iPad sets a fresh standard for communication on the platform.
