Pending Cases

Despite spending over Rs 9,800 crore on court infrastructure and technology since 2011, India's judiciary continues to grapple with a massive backlog of pending cases.

The Supreme Court has approved new measures to accelerate the disposal of pending cases, simplify procedures and improve judicial efficiency.

Piyush Goyal said the government may review nearly 5 crore pending minor offence cases under the Jan Vishwas Bill, aimed at decriminalisation and easing business compliance.

The Delhi High Court has instructed lower courts to comply with its directives and resolve pending cases within a specified timeline.
