The bench had previously directed the State Bank of India to provide details on each electoral bond encashed by political parties before the scheme's recent cancellation.

In addition to the plea seeking an extended deadline, the bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud will also address a separate petition seeking contempt action against SBI in the same case.

The State Bank of India (SBI) is accused of willful disobedience in the contempt petition filed with the supreme court, which also requests the start of contempt proceedings.

Although the goal of the electoral bonds was to reduce the amount of black money in politics and increase transparency in donations, the Supreme Court ruled that these goals did not justify the bonds.

Supreme Court directed the SBI to immediately cease the issuance of electoral bonds and ordered SBI to provide details to ECI and ECI will Publish them on Its Website

The court pointed out that while the government argues for anonymous donations to prevent a return to black money in political funding, the scheme provides only partial confidentiality and does not offer complete anonymity.

Jamaat feels that in any democracy, the government must take the people into confidence
