Virat Kohli Smashes IPL Record With 1000 Boundaries

In a landmark moment for Indian Premier League history, Virat Kohli became the first player to hit 1000 boundaries in the tournament, solidifying his status as one of the greatest batters the IPL has ever seen.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) icon reached the milestone during Match 24 of the IPL 2025 season against the Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday.

The record-breaking moment arrived in the fourth over of RCB’s innings when Kohli launched Delhi captain Axar Patel for a massive six over long-on.

That towering shot took his total to exactly 1000 IPL boundaries, which includes 721 fours and 279 sixes.

The Numbers Behind The Legend

Kohli, the only player to have featured in all 18 IPL seasons, continues to top the list for most fours in the league’s history.

In terms of sixes, he now trails only Chris Gayle (357) and Rohit Sharma (282).

Moreover, with 99 half-centuries under his belt, the RCB veteran is just one knock away from becoming only the second player in T20 cricket to register 100 fifties, behind Australia’s David Warner.

KL Rahul’s Homecoming Heroics Overshadow Kohli’s Milestone

However, despite Kohli’s personal milestone, it was KL Rahul who turned the game on its head, leading the Delhi Capitals to a six-wicket win in front of his home crowd.

Chasing a tricky target of 164, Delhi looked in deep trouble at 58/4. But Rahul produced a captain’s knock, anchoring the innings with a sublime 93 not out off 53 balls.

Returning to his hometown, Rahul displayed supreme control and timing, never letting the pressure show.

His innings included seven boundaries and six sixes, showcasing a perfect blend of patience and power.

RCB’s Inning Falters After Promising Start

Earlier, RCB managed to post 163/7, thanks in part to a strong opening from Phil Salt and Virat Kohli. But the momentum shifted quickly as Delhi’s spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav tightened the screws in the middle overs, restricting the flow of runs and forcing RCB into a cautious approach on a slow pitch.

While the total appeared competitive, especially given the pitch conditions, Delhi Capitals had other ideas.

Record-Breaking Partnership Seals The Deal

KL Rahul found the perfect partner in Tristan Stubbs, and together they forged a match-winning, unbeaten 111-run stand for the fifth wicket, the highest-ever partnership for that position in Delhi Capitals’ history.

Stubbs contributed a valuable 38 off 23 balls, complementing Rahul’s dominance at the crease.

Thanks to their partnership, Delhi chased down the target in just 17.5 overs, with 13 balls to spare, sealing a memorable victory and leaving RCB stunned on their home turf.

A Night Of Records And Rivalry

While Kohli’s historic milestone will go down in IPL folklore, the night ultimately belonged to KL Rahul and the Delhi Capitals.

The match served as a reminder of the intense competition and ever-rising standards in the IPL, where personal records and team glory often collide on cricket’s biggest T20 stage.
