India stormed into the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 after Sanju Samson crafted a magnificent unbeaten 97 to secure a five-wicket win over West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Facing a demanding target of 196 on a high-scoring pitch, India encountered an early jolt when they lost a wicket in the opening overs.

Tilak Varma made a decisive impact from the middle order, striking 27 from only 15 deliveries. His counter-attacking approach relieved pressure and shifted momentum back towards India at a crucial juncture.
Together, Samson and Tilak stitched a valuable stand that restored control after the early setback and placed India firmly on course.
As the finish line approached, Samson raised the tempo confidently, guiding the side home without allowing West Indies a late opportunity to claw back. Though he fell just short of a century, his innings proved match-defining.
India completed the pursuit with five wickets to spare, underlining their dominance in a contest that carried knockout intensity. The victory confirmed their progression to the last four of the tournament and ended the West Indies’ campaign.
