In a high-stakes fixture of the Indian Premier League 2026, Chennai Super Kings won the toss and chose to field first against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.
RCB entered the match aiming to register back-to-back wins, while CSK looked to open their account on the points table. Both sides decided to continue with their existing playing XIs for this important encounter.
CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad stated that the venue typically favours high-scoring matches and observed that the pitch appears conducive to batting. He added that the team plans to contain the opposition effectively.
Gaikwad also shared that MS Dhoni is gradually recovering and could return soon if match-fit. He acknowledged the team’s poor start in the opening game but emphasised improved batting performance in the subsequent match, which has lifted team morale.
RCB captain Rajat Patidar mentioned that his side would have preferred to bowl first but expressed satisfaction with batting on a fresh surface. He credited the team’s strong showing in the previous game and said the players are confident and clear about their roles.
Head-to-Head Overview
CSK maintain a superior overall record of 21 wins to RCB’s 13. However, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB hold a narrow advantage with six victories compared to CSK’s five, reflecting a balanced contest at this venue.
Cricket experts Ian Bishop and Faf du Plessis noted that one square boundary measures 61 metres, the other 68 metres, while the straight boundary extends to 74 metres. They indicated that the pitch should favour batters, although early wickets with the new ball could prove crucial. Spin bowlers may also influence the game as it progresses.
