Mumbai Indians have signed Jonny Bairstow, Richard Gleeson, and Charith Asalanka to replace Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton, and Corbin Bosch, who will leave for international duties after MI’s final league match on 26 May.
The newly signed players will be available from the playoffs stage, subject to Mumbai Indians qualifying for the knockout rounds.
The Indian Premier League stated that the move aims to help MI retain a competitive squad for the business end of the tournament.
Will Jacks, who returned to India recently ahead of MI’s last two league fixtures, will be unavailable for the latter stages of the IPL season.
He has been selected in England’s limited-overs squad for the West Indies tour, which coincides with the IPL playoffs.
Jacks played 11 of MI’s first 12 matches, scoring 195 runs across nine innings and taking five wickets with his off-spin.
Mumbai Indians have roped in fellow Englishman Jonny Bairstow as Jacks’ replacement, signing him for ₹5.25 crore.
Bairstow, who went unsold in the previous mega-auction, last played international cricket in June 2024.
He joins MI after leading Yorkshire in the County Championship against Surrey.
With 50 IPL appearances to his name, Bairstow has previously represented Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings.
South Africa’s Ryan Rickelton, who is MI’s second-highest run-scorer this season with 336 runs at an average of 30.54 and a strike rate of 153.42, will leave the franchise to participate in the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia.
His departure opens the door for England pacer Richard Gleeson, who made his IPL debut last year for Chennai Super Kings. MI have signed Gleeson for ₹1 crore.
Mumbai Indians signed Sri Lankan middle-order batter Charith Asalanka at a reserve price of ₹75 lakh to replace Corbin Bosch, who will join South Africa’s WTC final preparations.
MI signed Asalanka at a reserve price of ₹75 lakh.
Asalanka brings stability and firepower to the middle order, offering MI additional depth heading into the high-stakes playoff matches.
With these additions, Mumbai Indians have reinforced their squad to maintain momentum and depth as they eye another IPL title run.
