Now after the emphatic nine-wicket win last week in Indore, Australia has booked its place for the final. This brings the competition for the final spot down to the remaining two teams.

There are two teams other than India trying to enter the WTC final. Though India has bigger chances still things do not look too easy for anyone.  One of the 4 matches is starting today on Wednesday 8th of March, in Johannesburg which is between West Indies and South Africa. The contest is a dead rubber and that implies the last spot is to decided between Sri Lanka-New Zealand series beginning on 8th of March itself and that also will be the last match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

Now where does India stand in this equation?

Australia after defeating South Africa with a 2-0 home series win was the frontrunner to seal the first final spot. Now looking at India it has so far stronger chances than any other remaining teams with its two wins of colossal margins lately against the Aussies. In the first Test a victory by innings and 123 runs and in the second test a six-wickets win has helped India emerge as a frontrunner. But the third test had another story and Australia turned the tables bouncing back with a win on a raging turner.
