India And Afghanistan Set For Three-Match T20I Series In Delhi With Afghanistan As Hosts

Delhi will welcome India and Afghanistan for a three-match T20I series at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in September.

Afghanistan will retain the status of the home side even though all three fixtures will take place on Indian soil.

The opening encounter is scheduled for September 13, while the remaining games will follow on September 15 and September 17.

Afghanistan has increasingly relied on overseas venues for its home international matches, with India among the countries that have hosted its fixtures.

The upcoming series will give Afghanistan another chance to face a leading international side while providing its players with valuable experience against India.

The matches form part of Afghanistan’s Future Tours Programme and will add to the growing cricketing cooperation between the two boards.

BCCI President Mithun Manhas said the Indian board remains committed to assisting the development of Afghan cricket.

The September T20I series will complete India and Afghanistan’s bilateral engagements across all three formats during 2026.

The teams previously played a Test and ODI series in June, while their most recent T20I series took place in January 2024.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said encounters between the two sides have produced memorable contests and noted the popularity of Afghan cricketers among Indian fans. He also pointed to Afghanistan’s first Test against India in 2018 as a major milestone in the development of their cricketing ties.

Afghanistan Cricket Board chairman Mirwais Ashraf described the upcoming fixtures as another significant step in the partnership with the BCCI.

Delhi and District Cricket Association President Rohan Jaitley welcomed the decision to stage the games in the capital and said the venue would aim to provide both teams with strong facilities.
