Historic Lord's Women's Test Begins As England Bowl First; Three Players Debut

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt chose to field after winning the toss against India in the one-off women’s Test at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Friday.

The encounter has created history as the first women’s Test to be staged at the famous venue.

The hosts presented maiden Test caps to all-rounder Alice Capsey and off-spinner Mady Villiers, while India’s left-arm spinner N Sree Charani also earned her first appearance in the longest format.

The match additionally marks the end of Tammy Beaumont’s distinguished international career.

Sciver-Brunt explained that England expected the pitch to assist the seamers during the opening stages, making bowling first the preferred option. She also described the occasion as a proud moment and praised the former players whose contributions helped shape England women’s cricket.

India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said her side welcomed the opportunity to bat first and post a competitive total.

Harmanpreet Kaur confirmed N Sree Charani’s Test debut and promoted Yastika Bhatia to number three after a laceration to Pratika Rawal’s right knee ruled her out of the match.

Harmanpreet added that representing India in a Test at Lord’s was a memorable achievement and confirmed that the visitors had selected two fast bowlers and three spinners.

Pitch analyst Simon Doull observed that the wicket carried approximately 7mm of live grass and retained a slightly soft texture, conditions that should favour seam bowling during the early exchanges. He also suggested that the pitch could gradually assist spin later in the contest and advised pace bowlers to pitch the ball fuller to exploit the slope and movement available at Lord’s.
