The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to undertake an in-depth evaluation of the men’s T20I team after the conclusion of the England tour.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said the exercise will begin once India’s ODI series in England ends on July 19.
Speaking from Edinburgh, where the ICC Annual Conference is taking place, Saikia admitted that the team is experiencing a difficult run and stressed that the review would help identify the reasons behind the poor results and chart a path for improvement.
The announcement follows India’s disappointing defeat in the third T20I at Bristol, where England secured a commanding nine-wicket victory to seal the five-match series with two games remaining.
According to Saikia, the upcoming review will focus on understanding the shortcomings that have affected the team’s recent performances and recommend measures to address them ahead of future assignments.
India’s recent T20I form has been disappointing. Before losing the series in England, the reigning world champions suffered their first-ever bilateral T20I series defeat against Ireland.
The campaign in England also included a record 125-run loss after India were dismissed for just 76 in Nottingham.
The side has struggled with inconsistent performances from both the top and middle order, while the bowling unit has lacked its usual effectiveness without Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah.
Fielding standards have also dipped during the tour.
Road Ahead
India will look to finish the England T20I series on a positive note when they take on the hosts in the fifth and final match at Southampton’s Rose Bowl.
A win would also help the team protect its position at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I rankings.
Following the England tour, India will travel to Zimbabwe for a three-match T20I series starting on July 23, with the findings of the BCCI review expected to influence the team’s preparations and future planning.
