Gujarat Titans Skipper Shubman Gill incurred a 25% fine of his match fees for being too slow during their recent IPL match against Chennai Super Kings.
The match, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday night, witnessed an extraordinary display of batting from Gill and his teammate B Sai Sudharsan. Both of whom smashed centuries to lead Gujarat Titans to a remarkable 35-run victory over Chennai Super Kings.
However, despite their on-field heroics, the Titans’ skipper faced sanctions from the authorities for his team’s tardy over-rate.
Gill’s team had already committed a second offence under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate violations, leading to a hefty fine of INR 24 lakhs for the skipper.
“The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” the statement further clarified.
Despite the setback, Gill’s performance with the bat was exemplary.
Alongside Sudharsan, he unleashed an outstanding onslaught on the Chennai Super Kings’ bowling attack, with both players notching up centuries.

Their partnership paved the way for Gujarat Titans to post a formidable total, which eventually proved too much for Chennai Super Kings to chase down.
The fines levied against Gill and his teammates serve as a reminder of the importance of adhering to the rules and regulations of the game, even in the midst of exceptional performances.
While the skipper may have to pay a monetary penalty, his remarkable batting display undoubtedly left a lasting impression on the IPL 2024 season.
