Fit India Sundays On Cycle Event Sees Massive Participation Nationwide

The Fit India Sundays on Cycle event garnered widespread participation across the country, with Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, leading the initiative at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Organized by SAI Gandhinagar, the event saw around 650 cyclists, including members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Gujarat, Ahmedabad Medical Association, and local Members of Parliament, Hasmukhbhai Patel and Dineshbhai Makwana.

Paralympian athlete Bhavana Choudhary flagged off the event, adding an extra layer of inspiration for participants.

A National Movement Fueled By Fitness Enthusiasts

In the national capital, the Fit India movement received a significant boost as Guinness World Record holder Rohtash Chaudhary, also known as the ‘Push-up Man of India’, motivated cyclists at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium.

Rohtash, who holds the record for the most push-ups performed in one hour while raising one leg and carrying a 27.2 kg pack, joined around 500 cycling enthusiasts.

The participants included doctors from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), school and college students, corporate professionals, and members of Yogasana Bharat.

Speaking about the initiative, Rohtash Chaudhary praised the event’s impact, saying, “Sundays on Cycle is a great initiative by Fit India. The enthusiasm among participants was remarkable, but I urge everyone, especially the youth, to cycle not just on Sundays but every day.” He also emphasized the importance of fitness for national development, adding, “India has the third-highest number of obesity cases in the world after China and the USA. We need to be at the top in development, not obesity. Staying fit is crucial for the growth of our country.”

Indian Medical Association Supports Fit India Movement

The IMA organized the Sundays on Cycle event in 25 locations across India. Dr. Piyush Jain, Finance Secretary of the IMA, highlighted the importance of fitness in preventing lifestyle diseases.

“IMA is fully committed to the Fit India movement because prevention is better than cure.

It’s crucial for everyone to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Cycling is a great full-body workout and also benefits mental well-being, making it an ideal exercise,” he said.

A Nationwide Reach For The Fit India Initiative

Since its launch in December 2024 by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative has expanded across the nation, reaching over 4,500 locations.

The event takes place simultaneously at SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), and Khelo India Centres (KICs), underlining the government’s dedication to promoting a healthier, more active lifestyle for citizens.

With its growing reach and participation, the initiative continues to inspire people to embrace fitness and adopt healthier habits for a more active India.
