Ashes: England’s James Anderson Picks His 1100th First Class Wicket In 1st Test vs Australia

In the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday, seasoned England seamer James Anderson picked up his 1100th first-class wicket, marking another significant milestone in his illustrious career.

To do this, Anderson defeated Alex Carey, who had a good chance of reaching 66 until the English bowler got the better of him. A Jonny Bairstow drop earlier in the day prevented Anderson from getting Carey, but he was fortunate two overs later.

About the wicket taken by James Anderson

On a warm, cloudy morning at Edgbaston, Australia started off on 311 for five. After losing both experienced hitters Khawaja and Alex Carey, the visitors finished 386—seven runs short of their target. For the sixth wicket, Carey and Khawaja put together a crucial 118-run stand.

Khawaja and Robinson’s show

Khawaja took the bait, charging down the wicket before Robinson’s inch-perfect yorker uprooted his off-stump. However, England captain Ben Stokes increased the pressure with an aggressive field arrangement consisting of six catchers.
Before the spinner briefly left the pitch to receive treatment for an injury to his spinning finger, Pat Cummins of Australia scored 38 runs and hammered Moeen Ali for two sixes in an over.

ICC announcement on Ali

The ICC announced earlier on Sunday that Ali had been penalized 25% of his match fee for violating the test’s code of conduct on day two by applying drying spray to his finger without the on-field umpires’ consent.
