Indian Deaflympians Achieve Historic Feat; PM Modi Extends Congratulations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartiest congratulations to Indian Deaflympians for their extraordinary performance at the recently concluded 25th Summer Deaflympics 2025 in Tokyo.

Posting on X, he stated, “Heartiest congratulations to our Deaflympians for their extraordinary performance at the 25th Summer Deaflympics 2025 in Tokyo. With a historic best-ever medal tally of 20 medals including 9 Golds, our athletes have once again proven that determination and dedication can lead to outstanding results. Compliments to every athlete, coach and support staff. The entire nation is proud of you all!”

India’s tally of 20 medals surpassed the 16 medals won at the 2022 Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul, making it the country’s best performance at any Deaflympics.

Indian athletes competed across 11 sports, with 73 participants, comprising 45 men and 28 women.

The largest contingent represented shooting, with 12 athletes, followed by athletics with 11 participants.

Shining Stars in Shooting

Indian shooters dominated the medal chart. Dhanush Srikanth successfully defended his 10m air rifle title with a world record score of 252.2, while Mohammad Vania secured silver in the same event.

Mahit Sandhu emerged as the most successful shooter, winning four medals — two gold and two silver.

In the women’s 10m air rifle competition, Mahit Sandhu and Komal Waghmare won silver and bronze, respectively. Anuya Prasad set a new world record in the women’s 10m air pistol event.

Golf Olympian Diksha Dagar defended her Deaflympics title in Tokyo, finishing 14 strokes ahead of her closest competitor.

Her performance, along with the achievements of the shooters, contributed significantly to India’s historic medal haul.

The Prime Minister’s recognition highlights the dedication, resilience, and skill of Indian Deaf athletes on a global stage.

Their achievements are celebrated as a testament to the power of determination, discipline, and teamwork.

The historic tally reinforces India’s growing stature in international Deaflympics competitions and inspires a new generation of athletes.

With their record-breaking performance, Indian Deaflympians have set new benchmarks for excellence, earning national pride and international recognition.

PM Modi’s commendation underscores the government’s support for sports development and the promotion of inclusive opportunities for differently-abled athletes.
