Red Fort Car Blast Case: Court Extends NIA Custody Of Accused Bilal Wani By Seven Days

NIA officers produced terror accused Jasir Bilal Wani before the Patiala House Court on 17 November after his initial period of custody expired.

The court extended his remand by seven more days to allow investigators to continue probing his alleged role in plotting the explosion near the historic monument.

Wani had earlier suffered a setback when the Delhi High Court rejected his plea seeking permission to meet his lawyer.

Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma dismissed the petition, observing that Wani had failed to produce the trial court order rejecting his request for legal consultation at the NIA headquarters.

The National Investigation Agency suspects that Wani helped plan the car blast that shook the Red Fort area, killing 15 people and injuring 32 others.

Investigators allege that Danish, one of the accused, had modified drone equipment and attempted to prepare a rocket before the car bomb explosion, indicating a larger plot.

The NIA further stated that Danish played a key role in executing the conspiracy along with Umar-un-Nabi, believed to be one of the main planners behind the attack.

Custody of Other Accused Also Extended

Earlier, the court had sent the seventh accused, Shoaib, to 10 days of NIA custody and another accused, Aamir Rashid Ali, to seven days of remand.

The investigation has revealed that Shoaib sheltered Umar-un-Nabi shortly before the blast and provided logistical support crucial to the attack.

NIA findings show that Shoaib arranged a rented room for Umar at the Nuh residence of his sister-in-law, Afsana, assuring full responsibility for the arrangement.

Umar reportedly stayed there for 10 days leading up to the 10 November explosion in Delhi.

Investigators have also uncovered that Aamir Rashid allegedly worked with Umar-un-Nabi to plan the Red Fort blast.

The NIA claims that Aamir travelled to Delhi to help facilitate the purchase of the i20 car used in the attack.

The NIA continues to examine the network linked to the deadly explosion as more details emerge about the movements, planning, and support system of the accused individuals.

The agency is expected to continue custodial interrogation to uncover the complete chain of events and identify additional suspects involved in the terror plot.
