PM Modi To Attend ‘Laksha Kantha Gita’ Chanting; To Unveil Golden Covering At Udupi Math

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the historic Udupi Sri Krishna Math in Karnataka on November 28, 2025.

Paryaya Puttige Mutt seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami and other dignitaries will traditionally welcome him before he participates in the ‘Laksha Kantha Gita’ mass-chanting programme.

During the visit, PM Modi will have darshan of the deity at Madhwa Sarovara, perform a special puja, and later witness over one lakh devotees reciting verses from the Bhagavad Gita.

The recital will include Chapter 15 — Purushottama Yoga — and the last ten shlokas of the final chapter.

Devotees from across India and abroad will join the chanting online, while those physically present will be provided meals.

The Prime Minister will also unveil the ‘Kanaka Kavacha’ (golden covering) for the divine Kanakana Kindi, the historic window through which 16th-century poet-saint Kanakadasa saw Lord Krishna after the deity turned to him when he was denied entry due to caste restrictions.

This act of devotion remains a powerful symbol of faith and equality in Indian tradition.

Cultural and Spiritual Significance

Seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami emphasised that the event combines devotion, tradition, and massive public participation, reflecting the enduring message of the Bhagavad Gita and India’s spiritual heritage.

PM Modi will also visit Sarvagnya Peeta, the goshala, and the new Gita Mandira, interacting with seers from the Ashta Mutts and receiving their blessings. He will also sample Udupi’s traditional cuisine, including patrode.

The ‘Laksha Kantha Gita’ programme has been organised to inspire society to follow the ideals of dharma, compassion, and courage as taught in the Gita.

Initiatives such as ‘Akhanda Udayastamana Gita Parayana’ — continuous chanting of the Gita for two years — and ‘Koti Gita Lekhana Yajna’ have engaged devotees worldwide, reflecting Udupi’s global spiritual influence.

The authorities will restrict public entry to Sri Krishna Math from 8 AM to 3 PM on the day of the visit.

The local administration has ensured all arrangements are in place for smooth public access and the successful conduct of this historic event.

PM Modi’s participation in this grand spiritual programme underscores India’s devotion, unity, and commitment to preserving its timeless cultural and religious heritage.
