Himanta says hackers, likely from Pakistan, tried to hack his Facebook account

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday night said that hackers, possibly from Pakistan, attempted to hack his Facebook account. He said that an investigation was underway to identify those behind the attempt. "Unknown hackers attempted to hack my Facebook account this evening. Preliminary information suggests the hacker might be operating from Pakistan," he posted on X. Sarma shared a screenshot of the settings of his Facebook account that showed four people from India and one from Pakistan were managing it. Commenting on the chief minister's post on X, Drector-General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh tagged the state CID, and said: "Sir, we would investigate with the help of specialized agencies." Sarma has about 2 million followers on Facebook and another 2.2 million on X.

Aid group says 6,618 migrants died trying to reach Spain by boat in 2023, more than double 2022

More than 6,600 migrants died while trying to reach Spain by boat last year, a Spanish non-profit organization said Tuesday. The figure is more than double the number in the previous year, when the organization, Caminando Fronteras (Walking Borders), said 2,390 died. The organization said 2023 was the deadliest year since it began keeping records in 2007. Most of the 6,618 deaths recorded occurred on the so-called Atlantic route from west Africa to Spain's Canary Islands, just west of Morocco. The figure included 363 women and 384 children.

Water supply to be hit in parts of West Delhi on Thursday: DJB

Water supply in several areas in the western part of the national capital will not be available for around 12 hours on Thursday so that the leakage in a pipeline can be fixed, the Delhi Jal Board said Tuesday. Residents are advised to store a sufficient quantity of water in advance according to their requirements, it said, adding that a water tanker will be available on request. The affected areas include Nangloi, Mundka, Hiran Kudna, Kamruddin Nagar, Nihal Vihar, Ranholla Village, Bakkarwala, Rajdhani Park, Friends Enclave, Dichaon Kalan, Jhroda Village, Mitraon Village, Chhawla Village, Jaffarpur Kalan and Dhansa.

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot Tests Positive For Covid-19, Under Home Quarantine

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has tested positive for Covid-19 and is under home quarantine, the Special Secretary to the Governor, R Prabhu Shankar, said on Tuesday. "The governor has tested positive for Covid-19. He is being continuously monitored and his health is stable," Shankar said in a statement. "Presently, he is quarantined at his residence. His scheduled programs and appointments stand canceled till further intimation," the official added. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wished Governor Gehlor a speedy recovery. In a statement on social media platform X, Siddaramaiah said, "I wish the Honorable Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who is infected with Novel Corona, a speedy recovery."

BJP chief to hold meetings, review LS poll preparations during visit to Assam, Arunachal Pradesh

BJP chief J P Nadda will attend meetings and review preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls during his three-day visit to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh from Tuesday. He will arrive in Guwahati late in the night. On Wednesday, he will chair the meeting of the Assam BJP core and executive committees, the party said. Nadda will also review the preparations of the party in the state for the 2024 general elections, the BJP said, and added that he will leave for Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday. He will chair the meeting of the BJP Arunachal Pradesh core and executive committees at the State Guest House in Itanagar and also review preparations for the polls, the party said in a statement.
