Delhi Sees Alarming Surge in Theft and Burglary Cases, 4.02% Increase in 2022-23: Official Report

In 2022-23, the national capital reported more than 500 theft cases daily, as per the official report from the Delhi government. The Delhi Statistical Handbook-2023, released by the Economic and Statistics department, highlighted a 4.02% increase in theft cases compared to the previous year. The data revealed 1,98,263 theft cases in the fiscal year 2022-23, up from 1,90,598 in 2021-22. Burglary cases saw a significant surge of 134%, with 6,189 cases in 2022-23 compared to 2,637 in 2021-22. Arson cases rose to 105 from 88, while murder cases increased by over 10% from 459 to 509. Attempted murder cases also went up by 3.15%, from 761 in 2021-22 to 785 in 2022-23.
