Congress Party Foundation Day: New President Malllikarjun Kharge Hoists Flag In Presence Of Sonia Gandhi And Rahul Gandhi

Congress Party Foundation Day: Former Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi attended the party’s foundation day event on Wednesday, where the current party president hoisted the flag.

Hundreds of Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, were present. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had been presidents since 1998. So this was the first time a non-Gandhi hoisted the flag. However, when Sonia Gandhi was ill during her tenure, A.K. Antony, Motilal Vora, and Ambika Soni hoisted the party flag at the party headquarters three times.

Kharge’s Speech

In his speech after the flag hoisting programme, Kharge hailed Rahul Gandhi for his Bharat Jodo Yatra. And accused the Central government for dividing the nation and “not bothering about the sufferings of the people”.

“The Indian National Congress has always worked for the welfare and advancement of the Indian people. We firmly believe in the equality of opportunity guaranteed by political, economic, and social rights enshrined in the Indian Constitution “Kharge stated in his tweet.

“I am proud to be a part of such an organisation that chose the path of truth, non-violence, and struggle in every situation and always took every step in the public interest,” Rahul Gandhi said in a Hindi tweet.

K.C. Venugopal Tweet

K.C. Venugopal, party general secretary said in his tweet: legacy is burnished with stories of sacrifices. As @INCIndia celebrates the 138th Foundation Day, we salute the great sacrifices made by our founding fathers. We continue to be the proud torchbearers of that legacy through #BharatJodoYatra.”

Later in the day, Kharge will speak at a public rally in Mumbai.

The party has invited other party leaders to join the next leg of the Yatra, and National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah and PDP President and former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will be joining Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in J&K.
