The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced its first list of 99 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled for November 20. The list includes Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, renominated from Nagpur South West, and party state chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, fielded from Kamthi.
The BJP has renominated 71 of its sitting legislators, aiming for continuity and to avoid internal disputes. The party has yet to finalize a seat-sharing deal with its allies, Shiv Sena and NCP, but has emphasized social engineering by representing various sections of society.
The list includes 13 women candidates, with four of them being first-time nominees, such as Shrijaya Chavan (Bhoyar) and Sulabha Gaikwad (Kalyan East). Nine other women candidates have been renominated, including Manisha Chaudhari (Dahisar) and Vidya Thakur (Goregaon). The move is seen as a step toward ensuring broader representation.
Several senior ministers have been renominated, including Sudhir Mungantiwar (Ballarpur) and Vijaykumar Gavit (Nandurbar). Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar has also been renominated. Other key figures include Girish Mahajan (Jamner) and Chandrakant Patil (Kothrud).
The BJP’s list focuses on balancing experience with fresh faces while preparing for the upcoming elections.
