Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt congratulations to India’s star javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra, following his impressive silver medal win at the Paris Olympics 2024. In a phone call made on Friday, the Prime Minister praised Chopra’s outstanding performance and inquired about his recent injury, acknowledging the sportsmanship demonstrated by Chopra’s mother.
“You have once again brought laurels to the country. The entire nation had high hopes pinned on you,” said Prime Minister Modi. Chopra responded, noting the difficulties he faced due to his injury but expressed determination to improve and perform better in future competitions.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had taken to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to commend Chopra. In his post, Modi highlighted Chopra as a “living example of excellence” and expressed national pride in his achievement. “Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra on winning the silver medal. He continues to inspire countless upcoming athletes and make our country proud,” Modi wrote.

Chopra’s silver medal secure with a throw of 89.45 meters in the javelin throw final. Despite his remarkable performance, he was edged out by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who set a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 meters. Grenada’s Anderson Peters claimed the bronze medal with a throw of 88.54 meters.
Chopra’s victory has sparked widespread celebrations across India. At 26 years old, he has made history as the third Indian athlete to win medals in two consecutive Olympics, reinforcing his status as a leading figure in global athletics.
