The Guinness Book of World Records has named Pearl, a two-year-old female Chihuahua, as the world’s shortest-living dog. Pearl is 9.14 cm (3.59 in) tall and 12.7 cm (5.0 in) long. Pearl was born on September 1, 2020.
Pearl is smaller than a popsicle, smaller than a TV remote, and nearly the same length as a $1 bill.
The Guinness World Records (GWR) tweeted, “Say hello to the shortest dog in the world, Pearl 🐶”.
According to GWR, Pearl is the identical sister of Miracle Milly, who previously held the title. Miracle Milly, a 1-pound Chihuahua born in 2011, stood 9.65 centimetres (3.8 inches) tall till she died in 2020.
Vanesa Semler, Pearl’s owner, recently appeared on the Lo Show Dei Record, an Italian TV show. Ms. Semler took it onto the stage in an Easter egg-shaped armchair, to tremendous acclaim.
Pearl, according to the dog’s owner, has a calm demeanor for a Chihuahua and was unaffected by being on stage in front of a large live audience.
She did, however, tell the show’s host, Gerry Scotti, that Pearl is a ‘bit of a diva.
Ms. Semeler went on to say that the dog enjoys ‘eating high-quality food like chicken and salmon, as well as dressing up well.
Pearl was born at Crystal Creek Animal Hospital in Orlando, and its height was recorded three times at different intervals. Each measurement was taken in a straight vertical line from the base of her front foot to the top of her withers.
”We are fortunate to have her. And to have this one-of-a-kind opportunity to break our own record and share this incredible news with the rest of the globe”, GWR was informed by Ms. Semler.
