Rahul Gandhi Meets Opposition Leaders, Says – “Historic Step To Unite Opposition”

Top leaders from the Congress, Janata Dal (United), and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) met in Delhi today in an effort to forge a united Opposition front ahead of the 2024 general election.

They discussed the potential of taking on the ruling BJP as a single force.

Rahul Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Bihar Chief Minister and JDU leader Nitish Kumar, and Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister and RJD chairperson Tejashwi Yadav attended the meeting.

The meeting was also joined by JDU President Rajiv Ranjan Singh, RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Kumar Jha, and Congress leader Salman Khursheed.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “In this battle of ideology, a historic step has been taken today towards the unity of the opposition. Standing together will fight together – for India!” through his official Twitter handle.

It was the first formal meeting of key leaders from Congress and Janata Dal (United), with the goal of strengthening opposition unity ahead of the 2024 election.

“This was a historic meeting. Many concerns were discussed, and we resolved to combine all parties and fight future elections together. We have made this decision, and all of us will work for it”, Mr. Gandhi told the media, flanked by other leaders.

“Nitish Ji has taken a wise step by bringing all opposition parties together under one roof. We are on board with this and are pleased with how things are progressing”, Mr. Kejriwal told the media after meeting Mr. Kumar.

Mr. Kejriwal’s meeting came only hours after Mr. Kumar and Mr. Yadav met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi.

In accord with Mr. Gandhi, the Chief Minister of Bihar stated, “We will make all efforts to unite more and more parties in the country”.

In Bihar, the JD(U), the Rashtriya Janata Dal, and Congress form a coalition government.
