Two tourists had to be rescued after following their GPS directions directly into a port in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

A video of the incident, captured by resident Christie Hutchinson, shows a sailing crew leaping into action and swimming close to the sinking driver and passenger to save them. Both individuals were dragged from the car’s front windows. The motorist was wearing her seat belt.

Ms. Hutchinson explained, “I was just sitting there trying to get out of the rain when I saw a car drive directly past our boat and straight into the harbor at a pretty decent speed”.

“They didn’t look panicked because they did it so confidently. They were still happy”, she added.

Ms. Hutchinson described the tourists as sisters who were headlights deep in the harbor water.

Her husband was one of the rescuers who attached to the van with ropes and buoys. When the event occurred, they had spent the day sailing on their boat, the Nanea, with their friends.

Ms. Hutchinson further said, “The passengers were tourists trying to find a Manta Ray Snorkel tour company in the harbor and had been following their GPS directions when they took a wrong turn into the water”.

Many social media users were astonished, and many of them wanted to know how this happened.

One user commented, “I need to settle a debate. What maps was she using?”

The second user commented, “Why did she stay sitting on the window edge? She caused the car to tilt and fill with water”.

The third user commented, “Hey, at least she kept those wipers going. Gotta have a clear windshield to navigate these days”.
