World Autism Awareness Day

Developmental impairment known as an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is brought on by variations in the brain. Some ASD sufferers have a recognized distinction, like a genetic disorder. Other factors are still unknown. ASD is thought to have several underlying causes that interact to alter how individuals typically develop.

Signs and Symptoms

People with autism are different in a way that they behave, communicate, interact, and learn in ways that are different from most other people. Frequently, their appearance does not distinguish them from others.  People with ASD can have a wide range of skills. For instance, while some ASD sufferers are nonverbal, others may have advanced conversational abilities. Some people with ASD require a lot of assistance in their everyday lives, while others can function independently and work.

No tests available to test this condition

Since there is no medical exam, such as a blood test, to diagnose ASD, doing so can be challenging. To make a prognosis, doctors consider the child’s behavior and developmental stage. ASD can occasionally be identified in children as early as 18 months. A reliable prognosis made by a qualified expert can be assumed by the age of two. However, a lot of kids don’t get a definitive prognosis until they’re much older. Some patients don’t receive a diagnosis until they are teenagers or adults. People with ASD may not receive the early assistance they require as a result of this delay.

Pregnant women take the following measures to avoid this condition

There is no such cure for the condition but pregnant women can take measures to prevent this condition in babies. When certain nutrients and supplements are taken in good amounts, it can reduce the risk of autism. Air pollution can also lead to an increased risk of this condition. Pregnant women need to be regular with their prenatal appointments and be updated about how their child is growing. If a child is diagnosed with ASD, early intervention can help improve their social and communication skills.

Dr. Madhu Juneja says, “While there is no known cure for ASD, early diagnosis and intervention can improve the quality of life of individuals with the disorder. To note there is no sure way to prevent autism during pregnancy, there are some important steps that expecting mothers can take to reduce the risk of their child developing the condition. It usually affects children before 3 years of life and boys are prone four times more than girls.”
