Police in Uttar Pradesh can now access medico-legal and post-mortem reports online after the National Informatics Centre (NIC) completed the integration of the MedLEaPR portal with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), following the Allahabad High Court’s intervention.

Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal passed the order while hearing an application filed by Zairunnisha.

Although the court disposed of the bail application on 13 October 2026, it kept the matter pending until the authorities completed the integration.

During the hearing, officials informed the court that Prayagraj had recorded 3,707 post-mortems between 15 May 2025 and 22 October 2026. Police had submitted requests linked to FIRs through the portal in only two cases.

NIC Deputy Director General Shashikant Sharma and MedLEaPR team head Rahul Jain confirmed the completed integration.

The system allows police officers to submit requests using an FIR or crime number to access relevant medico-legal documents, including post-mortem reports.

Additional Director General (Technical) Bhagwan S Srivastava acknowledged technical difficulties that had hindered the submission of requests. He assured the court that police personnel would be sensitised to submit FIR-linked requests to the relevant hospitals and mortuaries.

Other officials who appeared before the court included Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary for Medical Health and Family Welfare V Hekali Zhimomi, Chief Medical Officer Dr Arun Kumar Tiwari and SRN Hospital post-mortem house in-charge Dr Rajiv Ranjan.

The court directed three senior departmental officials to meet at 11 AM on 4 November 2026, at the Principal Secretary’s office in Lucknow. It expressed hope that the meeting would address outstanding issues concerning timely report uploads, portal integration and staff awareness.

The court subsequently disposed of the matter, with the integration intended to improve police access to medico-legal records and streamline the investigation process.
