The Supreme Court of India granted interim protection from arrest to YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia on Tuesday, in connection with the multiple FIRs filed against him over his controversial comments on the show ‘India’s Got Latent’. Allahabadia was granted protection on the condition that he fully cooperates with the ongoing investigation.
The court also ruled that no further FIRs could be filed against him based on the comments from the show.
Allahabadia was directed to deposit his passport with the police and prohibited from leaving the country without prior permission from the court.
The Supreme Court expressed strong displeasure over his remarks, questioning the boundaries of obscenity and vulgarity. During the hearing, the Court condemned Allahabadia’s behavior, stating that just because someone becomes popular, they should not feel entitled to make offensive remarks that can disrupt society.
The Court also described Allahabadia’s language as ‘dirty’ and that he ‘vomited’ from his mind.
The Supreme Court Ruled That:
During the hearing, the bench expressed strong disapproval of Allahabadia’s remarks, stating:
“Just because someone becomes popular, does it mean they can say anything? Is there anyone on earth who will like this language? There is something very dirty in his mind which has been vomited.”
Ranveer Allahabadia has been named in FIRs filed by Maharashtra Cyber Department, Guwahati Police, and Jaipur Police. The Maharashtra Police’s Cyber Cell has summoned him for questioning on February 24.
Earlier, Mumbai and Guwahati Police had released a joint statement saying that Allahabadia was ‘continuously out of contact with investigative agencies’.
The Supreme Court was hearing his plea to consolidate multiple FIRs lodged against him across different states.
While Allahabadia has been granted temporary relief from arrest, the legal battle continues as the investigation remains ongoing. His ability to travel is now restricted, and his next steps in court will be crucial in determining the outcome of the case.
