The Supreme Court has refused to issue a passport to YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia.
The court stated that it would consider Allahabadia’s application for a passport once the investigation into his controversial remarks made during an episode of India’s Got Talent concludes.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Maharashtra government, told the court that the investigation would be completed within two weeks.
A bench consisting of Justice Suryakant and Justice N Kotishwar Singh noted that issuing a passport at this time could affect the ongoing investigation.
The court emphasized the importance of allowing the inquiry to proceed without interference, delaying its decision on the passport application.
During the hearing, senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, who represented Allahabadia, told the court that the petitioner had provided a written assurance and had fully cooperated with the investigation.

Chandrachud requested the Supreme Court to amend the condition of submitting his passport, arguing that the restriction was negatively impacting Allahabadia’s livelihood.
He highlighted that the ongoing legal constraints were affecting the YouTuber’s work, including his podcast The Ranveer Show.
Chandrachud also stressed that Allahabadia had complied with all requirements set by the court, including participating in the investigation with the Guwahati Police and responding to summons from the National Commission for Women.
The senior advocate further noted that the ban on issuing a passport was not only affecting Allahabadia’s livelihood but also the livelihoods of his 280 employees.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Central Government, acknowledged the importance of freedom of expression but emphasized that the government should not allow obscenity to influence the next generation.
The Supreme Court’s decision on the passport remains pending as the investigation into the controversial remarks continues.
The court assure that it would revisit the issue once the inquiry complete, setting the stage for further legal proceedings.
