Supreme Court

The court has ordered to shift Jagjit Singh Dallewal, the prominent leader of the United Kisan Morcha, to a hospital for medical care. Dallewal has been on a hunger strike demanding MSP and other agricultural reforms. Advocate General Gurminder Singh, representing the Punjab government, submitted a health report to the court regarding Dallewal’s condition.

After reviewing the health report, Justice Suryakant led the bench in directing that authorities move Dallewal from the temporary hospital where doctors had been monitoring him. The court further announced that it would hear the case again on January 2, giving time for Dallewal’s health to stabilize.

The lawyer for the Punjab government assured the court that Dallewal had completed his tests, including an ECG and blood samples, and that his heart condition was stable. However, doctors noted elevated uric acid levels, which required medication that Dallewal has reportedly refused to take.

Court Emphasizes State’s Responsibility for Dallewal’s Health

The court emphasized the Punjab government’s responsibility to ensure Dallewal’s health is closely monitored and maintained. Justice Suryakant highlighted that it was the constitutional duty of the state government to prevent harm to Dallewal’s life during his protest. The bench stressed that the authorities should not deprive Dallewal of any necessary medical facilities, especially given his vulnerable health condition.

Dallewal Appeals to Supreme Court for MSP Guarantee Law

Amid the ongoing hunger strike, Jagjit Singh Dallewal also wrote to the Supreme Court, requesting the court to direct the central government to consider their demands for a legally guaranteed MSP. This plea came after the court earlier raised concerns over the lack of medical care for the 70-year-old leader, who has been fasting for a prolonged period.
