Lakshya Vij, who is accused in a high-profile money laundering case related to an alleged international cyber fraud involving hundreds of crores of rupees, received significant relief from the Rouse Avenue Court.
The court granted regular bail to Vij, marking a key development in the ongoing case.
Special Judge Gaurav Rao of the Rouse Avenue Court approved Vij’s bail on a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh, along with a bail bond of the same amount.
In addition to the financial conditions, the court directed the accused to submit his passport to ensure his presence during the proceedings.
Court Considers Custody Period And Health Condition
While granting bail, the judge took into account several factors, including Vij’s five months in custody, the fact that the trial had not yet begun, and his medical condition.
The judge also noted that the court had not yet taken cognizance of the case, which further influenced the decision to grant bail.
Details Of The Alleged Cyber Fraud
Lakshya Vij’s arrest in July 2024 followed allegations outlined in the prosecution complaint (PC).
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) states that approximately Rs 500 crore transferred to fake accounts linked to non-existent entities over the span of a year.
The case further involves an alleged hack of the laptop of a person named Lisa Roth, where a fraudulent phone call led to her transferring a substantial sum under the false belief that her investments were in danger.
The caller, who posed as a Microsoft employee, misled Roth into transferring her $400,000 investment to a fake account, ultimately resulting in the cyber fraud.
Lakshya Vij’s bail conditions will ensure his compliance with court directives as the trial moves forward.
