
The Central Government has formally appointed Justice KR Shriram as the new Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium.
He replaces Justice MM Srivastava, who has been transferred to lead the Madras High Court.
The official notification confirming these appointments marks part of a wider judicial reshuffle involving leadership changes at four High Courts across India.
Leadership Transition Across High Courts
Justice Shriram, who previously served as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, will now take charge in Rajasthan.
In turn, Justice Srivastava will assume the role of Chief Justice in Madras.
These changes, recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium, aim to enhance the efficiency and balance of judicial administration across the country.
A Distinguished Legal Journey
Born on 28 September 1963 in Mumbai, Justice KR Shriram brings with him a wealth of legal and judicial experience.
He completed his LLB at the University of Mumbai and pursued an LLM in Marine Science in London.

He enrolled with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in July 1986 and quickly built a versatile practice, appearing before the Bombay High Court, the Supreme Court of India, consumer forums, and tribunals such as CESTAT and SAT.
He also represented clients before the Company Law Boards, demonstrating broad legal expertise across jurisdictions.
Justice Shriram began his judicial career on 21 June 2013, when the authorities appointed him as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court.
He was elevated to the position of Permanent Judge on 2 March 2016.
On 21 September 2024, he took over as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.
Commitment Beyond The Courtroom
People recognise Justice Shriram not only for his legal insight but also for his deep social commitment.
He has served as vice president of an NGO dedicated to conducting last rites for orphans and unclaimed deceased individuals, an initiative widely praised for its humanity and civic compassion.
In addition to making judicial and charitable contributions, he spends his spare time playing golf, which reflects his well-rounded personality beyond the bench.
