The High Court Bar Association held an emergency meeting on Sunday at its New Office to protest police atrocities against lawyers at the Varanasi District Court.
The meeting was presided over by the President of the High Court Bar Association, Senior Advocate Rakesh Pandey.
The meeting was conducted by General Secretary Akhilesh Kumar Sharma.
During the meeting, the police atrocities on the lawyers in Varanasi were strongly condemned. The members criticised the act of politicising the matter on the streets by the families of a disciplined police force to hide their mistakes, calling it inappropriate.
The High Court Bar Association expressed its strong disapproval of the police behaviour.
Furthermore, the court passed a resolution to support the Varanasi Bar Association and its ongoing protest.
Lawyers’ Protest Against Police Atrocities
The Association also demanded that the administration ensure a satisfactory and speedy resolution of the matter. It warned that if justice is delayed, lawyers may be forced to launch a state-level protest.
The Association further urged the State Legal Council of Uttar Pradesh to consider the entire issue and take prompt and appropriate action.
They emphasised that the long-pending demand for an Advocate Protection Act has still not seen any concrete steps.
The executive committee unanimously passed a resolution demanding immediate administrative action by the Chief Minister. The resolution specifically targeted Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Neetu Kadyan for her unwarranted and frivolous statements.
The meeting stressed the urgency of holding responsible officials accountable to maintain the dignity of the legal profession.
The meeting was attended by senior vice presidents KK Dwivedi and Amit Kumar Singh, along with Vivek Mishra.
Joint Secretary of the Library Shashi Kumar Dwivedi, Joint Secretary of Press Rameshwar Datt Pandey, and Treasurer Anjani Kumar Mishra were also present.
Executive committee members Anjali Singh Tomar, Kanak Kumar Tripathi, Divanshu Tiwari, Baldev Shukla, Abhishek Tiwari and Akhand Pratap Tripathi attended the meeting.
Other members present included Gaya Prasad Mishra, Girish Chandra Shukla, Aniruddh Singh, Avnish Chandra Tripathi and Krishna Mohan Pandey. This information was provided by the Joint Secretary of the Press, Rameshwar Datt Pandey.
